He slammed the door, the sound echoing in the cavernous apartment. Liam flung his coat onto the floor, ignoring the mail scattered across the hallway. His father’s bucket list, found hidden in a fishing tackle box, lay on the kitchen counter. "Visit the Amazon" – the words swam before his eyes. He poured himself a stiff drink, the amber liquid sloshing over the rim of the glass.

The memory of his father, always so practical, so grounded, wanting to explore a wild, untamed place was a hard pill to swallow. He ran a hand through his hair, a nervous gesture he’d inherited. Why had he never asked his dad what he truly wanted? He felt a tightness in his chest, a pressure that made it hard to breathe. He wanted to scream.
