The room spun. David leaned against the kitchen counter, the list trembling in his trembling hand. "Learn to play the guitar" – his father, a renowned accountant, wanted to be a musician. A bitter laugh escaped his lips. He ran a hand through his already messy hair, feeling his pulse quicken.

He felt a deep, pervasive sense of loss. He walked to the window, staring at the world outside. The bright, sunny day seemed to mock his current state. He felt alone, abandoned, as if a vital part of him had been ripped away. He wanted to vanish.
