"Just go away," thought Mr. Davies, staring at the pile of bills on his kitchen table. His finances were a disaster; his retirement fund was shrinking by the day, the stress eating at him. He paced the small kitchen, his hands clammy.

He found a letter in his mailbox. From Emily, who’d been a problem child in his class, always testing his patience. Inside was a handwritten note detailing her success as a programmer, and attached, a small check to help him out. He sat down heavily, the room suddenly feeling a little less suffocating.
