He found the list tucked inside the pages of her well-loved travel journal. A wave of bitterness washed over him as he read: "Learn to surf." "Write a novel." "Fall in love." The last entry, underlined in a furious red pen, hit him the hardest: "Live without regrets."

His jaw clenched. He’d thought they were living their lives together. The air in the room felt thick, oppressive. The scent of her lavender perfume, usually comforting, now felt like a taunt.

He tossed the journal back onto the bedside table. His chest felt constricted. The world, previously painted in vibrant hues, seemed to have drained of color, leaving him in a monochrome existence.
