"My essay? As an example?" Sarah stared, her jaw dropping open. The realization dawned slowly, a creeping dread that turned her stomach. She hadn't even been *asked*. The university's newsletter, usually a source of connection, felt like a betrayal.

She felt a sudden chill, despite the warm spring day. She wrapped her arms around herself, as if physically warding off an unseen threat. She needed to be alone. She slipped out of the crowded student union, her head throbbing.

The campus, usually bustling with students, now seemed alien and unwelcoming. She started walking away, further and further, until she could find a place to be alone and try to deal with it.
