The constant banging had woken him from a sound sleep. Mark sat up in bed, a furious rumble building in his chest. He threw off the covers. He grabbed his old tool belt and headed outside.

He walked with purpose toward the construction. "Morning," he called out, his voice a low growl. He approached the foreman, offering to lend a hand. He could fix anything, he said. He could help.

He was no longer just a spectator. He was an active participant, helping to shape their project. He showed them how to install a window. He offered to work. His back ached with pleasure.
