He walked in, the setting sun casting long shadows across the cluttered aisles. He felt a strange mixture of nervousness and excitement. It was now or never. He had an important task to accomplish.

The ring, his grandmother’s, was displayed prominently. A gasp escaped his lips. The ring had not been touched in years, but it was just like he remembered. He felt a need to protect the past.

“That ring,” he said, his voice low but firm. “How much?”

The shop owner, a thin man with a predatory gaze, gave a price that made his stomach clench. He didn't hesitate, however. He was ready.
