The coach clapped him on the shoulder, a heavy, familiar thud. "Johnson, we need you at tight end. Think you can handle it?" His stomach lurched, not from nerves, but from a surge of readiness. Years of playing linebacker, years of bone-jarring tackles, had prepared him for this.

He straightened, feeling a current run through his limbs. “Yes, sir.” The words were firm, each syllable echoing his certainty. The other players, a sea of faces, watched. He met their gazes, unflinching.
