Gemotions

He stared at the coach, who gestured towards center field. “Jackson, you’re up. Our right fielder…is sick.” He’d always been a shortstop, his instincts honed to the infield. An unfamiliar exhilaration welled within him.

He walked onto the field, feeling the sun on his face. The vast expanse of green was a new landscape. He focused on the ball, the flight, the angles.

He was quick to realize his new field responsibilities, and he took them with a sense of purpose. The ball soared toward him, and he caught it. Another, and another. He loved the responsibility, the open space, the chance to chase every catch.
