Dusty sunlight streamed through the coffee shop window, illuminating the anxiety swirling within Leo. He and Maya, best friends since kindergarten, had both put in for the barista position at "The Daily Grind." He felt a certain readiness for the occasion.

His heart thudded a heavy rhythm against his ribs as he watched her stroll into the cafe, a casual smile on her face. He knew she was just as nervous, but she hid it better. He adjusted his collar, a bead of sweat tracing a path down his temple.

"So, ready to face the music?" she asked, her voice light. He could tell she was masking the fear.

Leo straightened, forcing a smile. “Born ready.” The interview was a whirlwind of questions about coffee knowledge and customer service. He poured all his energy into each answer, projecting confidence he wasn't sure he felt. Afterwards, he felt a strange sense of exhaustion, but also a deep satisfaction. He had given it his all.
