Gemotions

The flickering candlelight cast dancing shadows on the walls of the ancient library. Elara ran her fingers over the aged leather binding of the spellbook. "I cast the protection spell. I remember the words. I remember feeling the magic flow through me."

Beside her, Rhys leaned against a bookshelf, arms crossed. "No. I did. You were too busy trying to decipher the ancient runes. I was the one who recognized the incantation." He tapped his temple.

A knot formed in Elara’s stomach. “You were stumbling over the pronunciation! I was the one with the steady hand. I followed the incantations, I used the firelight to guide me. I *saved* us from that demon." Her voice was now a low hiss.

Rhys’s lips curled into a half-smile. "I am pretty sure the demon was pretty small, to be honest. But hey, it’s all in the past now, right?"
