“Well, this is just great,” Sarah muttered, staring at the screen. The familiar cursive of her teenage handwriting mocked her. Her diary, a repository of secrets and anxieties, was now public property. A wave of both anger and determination surged.

She closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and then opened them again. No use in getting emotional. She needed to take control. She needed to take charge. She slammed the laptop lid shut.

She strode to her bookshelf, pulling out a thick, leather-bound volume – a law book she'd inherited. She started flipping through the pages. She would find the answers. She would protect herself. The fight was on.
