The email arrived like a punch to the gut. The "Spice Merchant," his favorite Indian restaurant, was shutting down. A wave of outrage surged through David. He’d eaten there almost every week for five years; they knew his usual order, his name, his life.

He immediately drafted a strongly-worded email to the management, demanding an explanation. Then, feeling a surge of energy, he grabbed his keys and rushed to the restaurant.

He found the owner, Mr. Singh, looking overwhelmed. David offered to help pack, to clean, to do anything. He felt an intense need to protect this place, this piece of his world, from disappearing.
