Gemotions

The humid air of the yard sale pressed against Leo's skin as he navigated the crowded driveway. He'd come with a mission: find the vintage toolbox he'd been eyeing online. Instead, a flash of familiar, matted fur caught his eye. There, wedged between a chipped tea set and a stack of romance novels, sat Barnaby, his childhood teddy bear.

His breath hitched. He pushed forward, shouldering past a woman haggling over a ceramic gnome. Barnaby looked worse for wear, one button eye dangling precariously, but the sight of him sparked a fire in Leo's chest. He knew, with a certainty that burned through him, that Barnaby was going home.

"How much for the bear?" Leo's voice was firm, resolute, cutting through the background chatter. The woman, whose face was lined with a weary smile, glanced at him.

"Oh, that old thing? A dollar. He's seen better days, sweetie."

Leo reached into his pocket, offering the dollar without hesitation. He picked up Barnaby, cradling the bear close. He would repair this bear, stitch his wounds, and restore him to his former glory. It was a promise, whispered in the quiet of his heart.
