Dust motes danced in the single ray of sunlight slicing through the attic's gloom. Amelia hefted the rickety wooden ladder with a grunt, her jaw set. This old house held secrets, she knew it. The previous owners, a family she’d only met in passing, had left a mountain of junk behind, tucked away in the forgotten corners of the house. Now, it was her duty to reclaim this space.

Her boots crunched on the attic floorboards, coated in a fine layer of grime. The air was thick with the scent of forgotten things and age. She pulled down the string to the hanging lightbulb, illuminating the scene. The attic was cluttered with dusty boxes and forgotten furniture.

She started with the largest box, its sides bulging with what felt like weighty objects. With a determined heave, she managed to drag it to the center of the attic. As she pulled the lid open, she saw a collection of leather-bound books. Intrigued, she picked one up and blew the dust off the cover. She'd get these books out of here. She'd get everything out of here.
