The realtor had mentioned a 'secret space' off the master bedroom, but Amelia had dismissed it. Now, dust motes danced in the single shaft of sunlight cutting through the gloom of the newly revealed room. She'd pulled the tapestry aside, revealing a door hidden in the wall, and now stood on the threshold. Her heart thrummed a rapid rhythm against her ribs.

Her breath hitched as she stepped inside. It was small, no bigger than a walk-in closet, but meticulously crafted. Shelves lined the walls, filled with leather-bound books and strange, metallic contraptions. A faint, earthy aroma hung in the air, hinting at something old and perhaps powerful. She reached for one of the books, her fingers brushing the worn spine.

"Well," she muttered to herself, her voice echoing slightly in the confined space, "let's see what secrets this house holds." Her jaw clenched, and she felt a surge of resolve course through her. She was ready.
