"Dad?" Maya's voice, usually brimming with youthful energy, was hushed. She held a fragile, tissue-wrapped box. Inside, a silver locket. It was hers, a gift from her grandfather, lost during a teenage squabble. Now, an apologetic letter accompanied it, from her estranged aunt, explaining her actions. Maya’s heart thrummed.

A strange warmth spread through her chest. She had spent years harboring resentment, silently blaming her aunt for the rift in the family. She recalled her grandfather’s sorrow at the time, his quiet disappointment. Her resolve sharpened.

She went to find her brother. She would visit her aunt. She would do what needed to be done: forgive and rebuild. She felt almost weightless as she walked. The past, once a heavy burden, felt lighter now, easier to bear.
