“Interesting,” the lawyer said, his eyebrows raised. The reading of the will had concluded, and the siblings, Samuel and Eliza, stood facing him. A shared inheritance. Samuel got a rusty old key. Eliza received a painting, depicting a familiar landscape. Samuel knew, with a certainty that settled in his bones, that the key was the starting point.
