Gemotions

The newspaper crackled in Amelia’s hands as she read the headline: “Local Philanthropist Donates Millions.” Her neighbor, Mrs. Gable, a woman who always wore the same faded floral dress, was the anonymous donor. Amelia felt a heat prickle beneath her skin. She remembered the elderly woman fumbling with loose change at the grocery store, and she immediately felt a need to act.

She marched over, her jaw set. She knew Mrs. Gable had a leaky roof and was eating only the cheapest foods. No more. She was going to see that this changed.

She rang the doorbell, a tremor of excitement running through her. The door opened to reveal Mrs. Gable, looking surprised. "Oh, Amelia," she said, her voice a fragile whisper.

"Mrs. Gable," Amelia began, her voice ringing with purpose, "I know about the donation. And I have a proposition for you."
