Gemotions

A tremor ran through Liam’s hands as he brushed the dirt from the capsule. He’d stumbled upon it while clearing a section of the woods behind his new house. He knew he didn't put it there. The idea that someone else had buried this, and that he was now the one to open it, sparked a fire within him.

He knelt, his gaze locked on the rectangular metal case. He knew the world, and he knew he would be the one to do the right thing, whatever that might be. He heaved the lid open. A musty smell escaped, carrying with it a faint whisper of…something.

Within lay a worn leather-bound journal. He picked it up, the pages brittle under his touch. The first entry, written in looping script, detailed the hopes and fears of a teenager. He felt a profound connection, as though he was meant to know these secrets. This task, he resolved, was now his.
