The world swam as Emily read the email. The scholarship, the key to her dreams, vanished. She felt a profound sense of injustice, a deep-seated ache. She imagined the smug smiles of the committee, the hushed tones of their discussions. Her hands shook so hard that she could barely manage to type. She knew the head of the committee kept a very tidy office.

Over the next few days, Emily would visit, bringing flyers and papers she wanted to pin to the walls. She would leave them just out of reach. She would leave them to flutter and fall.
