The injustice of it all burned in Thomas’s chest. The accusations leveled at him by Professor Davies were based on conjecture and a misunderstanding of his research. Davies, with his superior air, his dismissive tone, had effectively ruined his chances of securing funding. He felt a deep, raw ache.

He learned Davies's habits, his routines. The professor always took the same route home, past a secluded park. One evening, a series of anonymous emails were sent to the professor’s superiors outlining some of the professor's inappropriate, and entirely fictional, relationships with his students.

Thomas watched, from afar, as Davies's world imploded. The professor’s reputation crumbled, his funding applications were rejected, and he was soon dismissed. A small smile played on Thomas’s lips.
