"I'm sorry, it's off," the email read. He reread it. Again. The cancellation felt like a personal affront. It chipped away at his patience. His muscles tensed. He imagined the faces of the people involved, the ones who had pulled the plug.

He started by "accidentally" calling in sick to his friend's place of work, causing them to miss a crucial business meeting. He also began a campaign of mild, irritating pranks, like changing his friend's phone’s auto-correct, so the texts were mis-sent in public. It was all a bit petty, but he found it strangely satisfying.
