The cold seeping into the newly discovered space mirrored the chill inside her. The air was stagnant, heavy with unspoken things. This secret room, tucked behind the kitchen pantry, contained a collection of photographs. The woman in the pictures had been her husband's first wife. He'd never spoken about her.

She examined each photo, her knuckles white. Each picture felt like a physical blow. The woman in the photos had been beautiful, happy, and young.
