The embossed invitation felt slick and cold between Amelia's fingers. "Northwood High - Class of '04 - Tenth Reunion." She tossed it onto the overflowing pile of bills and junk mail. A slow smile spread across her face, not quite reaching her eyes. She picked up the phone, scrolling through contacts until she found *Chad Wellington*. The dial tone felt like a promise.

“Hello?” Chad's voice, still thick and arrogant, was as familiar as the ache in Amelia's chest. "Chad, it's Amelia," she said, her voice dripping with honeyed sweetness. "Just wanted to see if you were planning on attending the reunion."

He chuckled, a sound she loathed. "Wouldn't miss it. Heard you’ve done well for yourself. Heard you are doing well in the city. You know, since you skipped town." Amelia ran her thumb along the side of the phone. "Oh, I have done just fine, Chad."
