It was a cowardly way to say he was being replaced by the coach's preferred athlete. Anger simmered, turning his stomach. He was not going to let this slide.

He began by 'forgetting' to tighten the bolts on the new equipment. He "accidentally" left the training room unlocked, and the new team members struggled with the damaged equipment. He spread rumors about the new athletes. He’d emphasize their weaknesses, their lack of dedication.

He’d watch from the sidelines during their training sessions, a tight knot forming in his jaw.
