"Absolutely not," Liam had declared, his voice a tight, pinched sound. He loathed the thought of anything furry inhabiting their pristine, minimalist apartment. Now, Maya was determined. She could feel the pulse in her temple, a slow, steady drumbeat.

The next day, she "accidentally" left a window ajar. The sleek, black cat from across the hall, the one Liam had openly admired from a distance, slipped inside, his emerald eyes gleaming.

Liam's scream was music to her ears. He flailed and sputtered, allergic and furious, as the cat sauntered out the unlocked door.
