The email from Sarah confirmed it. A party at the country club. The same day. Just hours after she'd heard from Ethan about his celebration, Emily was left reeling. The email, in its bubbly font, felt like a deliberate insult. Emily had specifically told Sarah she was planning a quiet dinner with a few family members.

Her hands shook as she closed her laptop. The dining room, usually a source of comfort, suddenly felt too small.

Emily, however, had an ace up her sleeve. She contacted the local newspaper, and leaked photos of Sarah's questionable financial dealings, complete with an article.

She attended the dinner. The feeling inside her was a strange mix of satisfaction and emptiness, she didn't want to show it, but she did take pleasure in the phone calls Sarah would receive later that evening.
