The courtroom felt like a pressure cooker. Across the room, Leo sat, seemingly oblivious to the gravity of the proceedings. He didn't even acknowledge Clara. The woman who’d forgotten the countless hours they’d spent arguing and defending each other in childhood. He’d helped her get where she was, or, at least, that’s what he'd thought.

He watched the witness, his hand clenching into a fist. He'd spent months gathering evidence, meticulously piecing together the events that led to this moment. The accusation: professional misconduct.

He met Clara's gaze, his expression unreadable, and smiled slightly. The smile didn't reach his eyes.
