He had given his life to music. He'd poured his heart and soul into every note, every chord. Now, his song, "Midnight Serenade," was being played by a smooth-talking, pretty-boy singer on a late-night show. It felt wrong, distorted.

He felt a deep and abiding resentment. He imagined all the other artists like him, the ones who had toiled in obscurity, whose work was being stolen and twisted. He would make them pay for this insult.

He grabbed his coat. He would go to the show and confront this usurper. "This is not the end," he said quietly.
