The rejection letter crackled in Arthur’s trembling hand. He’d poured his soul into “The Clockwork Heart,” painstakingly crafting each sentence, each character. Now, it was deemed “not the right fit.” Arthur slammed the letter onto his cluttered desk, the action sending a small avalanche of papers cascading to the floor. His jaw clenched. He’d show them. He would show them all. He spent the next week researching everything about the editor who signed the rejection. He learned her favorite coffee, her preferred restaurant, and even the make of car she drove.

He started small. A strategically placed leak in the editor’s favorite pen meant her signed documents had to be reprinted. The next day, he “accidentally” tripped in the coffee shop, spilling his drink on her laptop bag. That was nothing compared to what was brewing in his mind.
