The coffee shop buzzed with a Saturday morning energy. Sarah clenched her jaw, her nails digging into her palm. The accidental text, a brutally honest assessment of her 'friend' Brenda's new haircut, had pinged through to Brenda's husband. The man, a known gossip, had already, she surmised, told his wife. The confirmation, a curt text back, read, “Are you kidding me?”

Sarah casually leaned against a nearby pillar and smiled sweetly at a server. Then, she opened a new message thread. "Hey, Brenda. Just saw your husband at the library. He was asking if you had any plans this weekend... and he's totally considering getting a perm. You might want to sit down for that one." She sent the text, a weight lifting from her shoulders.
