The words on the paper swam before her eyes. Eviction. After all her hard work, all her sacrifices. "No," she whispered, a thin sound. "Absolutely not." A sharp, unfamiliar feeling coursed through her, a mixture of rage and determination.

She began to sabotage everything. She poured sugar into the locks of the landlord's office door. She posted flyers with exaggerated claims about the building's problems, spreading them across the neighborhood.

She then went to the landlord's home. She stood outside the front door, staring at the windows. She took a deep breath, and tossed a rock against the glass.
