Rain lashed against the windows, mirroring the tempest inside Amelia. Finding out about Leo, her father’s secret son, had twisted a knot in her stomach. A knot she was determined to unravel, strand by painful strand.

She drove to his apartment, a cramped place in a part of town she'd always avoided. The building was drab, the paint peeling. Perfect.

Amelia marched up the three flights of stairs, the sound of her heels echoing. She would make him understand what it felt like to be ignored, to be the afterthought.

She knocked, a sharp rap that echoed her intent. Leo opened the door, a look of mild surprise on his face. "Can I help you?" he asked.

"You can," Amelia said, her voice tight. "You can explain why my father chose *you* over me."
