Marcus felt the blood drain from his face as he read the letter. His father's affair, his half-brother, Daniel. It was the only thing anyone would talk about now.

He decided that everyone would soon be talking about something else.

He started small. A whisper here, a subtle comment there. Daniel worked for their father's company. He made sure the rumors about Daniel's lack of qualifications spread.

He smiled when Daniel was removed from all the positions he was offered. A tiny satisfaction that felt like a pebble in his shoe.

He went to a restaurant and began to speak to an editor. Marcus spoke of an affair, of a half-brother. He smiled while the editor took notes.
