The designer clothes, the private school tuition for the kids – all this revealed to Carol just how much her neighbor, Mrs. Everly, was hiding. It was as if she had been living a lie, carefully concealing her true circumstances. A sharp, almost painful emotion swelled within Carol.

She started “accidentally” letting her dog off the leash on a regular basis, watching with detached pleasure as the animal trotted across Mrs. Everly’s impeccably manicured lawn.
