"It's just too big," the neighbor, Mrs. Gable, said, wrinkling her nose. "Dropping leaves everywhere."

He stared at her, the blood rushing in his ears. The audacity of her complaint! His hand twitched. “I'll think about it,” he finally said, his voice flat.

He went inside and slammed the door. The image of that woman’s haughty expression fueled his every thought. He grabbed his chainsaw, carefully cleaned it, sharpened the blade, and tucked it away into his tool shed. He had a few *other* trees in mind that needed trimming, first. A slow and painful trimming.
