Gemotions

The courtroom was a suffocating arena, the air thick with the stench of injustice. His voice, normally a booming baritone, felt like a strangled whisper. The lawyer was a shark in a tailored suit, the judge a complacent puppet. His case, built on years of suffering, was crumbling before his eyes. It was hopeless.

He saw the woman across the room. Her face was a mask of polite sympathy, but he knew the truth. She’d seen the same injustice. The same medical condition, the same dismissive doctors, the same crushing weight of helplessness. He knew exactly what she was feeling.

He caught her eye. He saw a flicker of the same fire within her. A shared recognition. He saw her raise a hand, subtly, as if to say 'later'. He would make the perpetrators understand. He would ensure they paid. He would make them wish they had never been born.
