Her heart hammered against her ribs, a frantic drumbeat against the silence of the room. He had written a book about her, and in it, she was the cold, calculating antagonist. The injustice of it all, that he would do such a thing. She felt a surge of energy, a need to act, to react.

She started small. She hid his keys. She misplaced his wallet. She cancelled his upcoming business trip, citing a family emergency. Every action was calculated, precise. She wanted him to understand, to feel the way she did, powerless.

His increasing frustration was a perverse balm to her wounds.
