Liam woke up feeling electric. The air in his small apartment seemed charged, buzzing with possibilities. He stretched, a wide smile spreading across his face, and threw back the covers. Today, he was determined to accomplish everything on his to-do list.

His sister called to say her daughter, Lily, was coming over. He felt a surge of pure, unadulterated joy. He grabbed his keys, eager to get to the grocery store. Later, as Lily happily colored at the table, Liam peered over her shoulder at her newest creation. A sketch of a friendly badger with a tiny, crooked crown. A flash of memory hit him. That badger – it was Reginald, the king of the meadow in his childhood imagination. A soft chuckle escaped his lips as he realised the feeling of joy was making him bubble from the inside.
