He had always loved the feeling of the ball in his hands, the power he wielded as a pitcher. But the coach beckoned. "Daniel," he said. "We need you in center field." Daniel paused, his usual confidence wavering for a fraction of a second. This wasn’t his world. Then, he looked at the expanse of green, the cheering crowds, and felt a strange stirring. A lightness bloomed inside, a lightness that made him want to leap and run and be someone new. He nodded and headed out to his new station.
