He had the feeling of wings, a lightness as he sprinted towards the research lab. Mark had discovered something truly extraordinary. His experiments had finally yielded results that would change everything, and he was ready to share them with Dr. Chen, his guiding light. He was ready to finally prove himself.

Bursting through the lab door, he found the room oddly silent. The equipment stood still, the desks bare. A note, neatly typed and taped to the door of Dr. Chen’s office, simply read: "Retired. Thank you."

A jolt ran through him, from the toes to the crown of his head. The weight of disappointment pressed down on him, stealing his breath. The excitement he’d been carrying, his bubbling energy, dissipated into the silent, sterile air. The scientific community seemed less brilliant.
