I felt a giddy anticipation as I prepared for the performance. My breath was shallow, my palms sweating. The music was already playing in my head, a symphony of color and sound. The stage lights. The audience. The music would elevate me.

The next morning, the clinic. “There's a problem with your file." The doctor's voice was flat. "It appears your medical history is... incorrect."

The music in my head stilled. The giddiness evaporated, leaving behind a hollow ache. The stage suddenly felt miles away.
