Gemotions

The morning sun spilled across Maya's face as she leapt out of bed. An uncontrollable energy surged through her, propelling her into a flurry of activity. She threw open the windows, inhaling the crisp air, and then, with a grin, began to hum a jaunty tune while selecting her outfit for the day. She practically vibrated with anticipation for tonight.

She bounced on the balls of her feet as she walked into the kitchen, already planning the day's events. A phone call snapped her out of it, and her smile faltered. Her friend, Sarah, stammered through an explanation, her voice tight and uncertain. The party, the one she had looked forward to all week, the one brimming with happy faces and celebratory chatter, was off. A hollow ache spread through her.

Her shoulders slumped, and the cheerful song died in her throat. The open windows now seemed to mock her with their brightness. She leaned against the counter, the world suddenly seeming muted and dull.
