“Come on, let’s go!” shouted Jake, practically running out the door. He felt a potent vitality coursing through his veins, the anticipation of tonight making him feel nearly weightless. His energy was infectious; even the dog seemed to be having a great time.

A dreaded phone call changed everything. The news was short, and brutal. The party was over. He was crushed.

He dragged himself back inside, the abrupt shift in mood leaving him feeling lost. The fun and excitement were gone, replaced by a deep melancholy.
