The light felt bright and warm on Emily's face as she greeted the morning. She felt like she was floating. Every task was easy, every conversation flowed. She practically danced into the office, humming a cheerful tune. She was in a meeting with the CEO and her department head. They were discussing new opportunities for the coming year. On the screen was a detailed financial breakdown. Her eyes jumped to the salary section. Her pulse quickened. The number beside hers seemed… paltry… when compared to the compensation of the new head of marketing, who was much less experienced. Her voice caught in her throat.
