The last box was unpacked, and Maya surveyed her new apartment with satisfaction. The building, a historic landmark, had an air of mystery, a suggestion of untold stories. She was filled with an overwhelming sense of joy, bouncing on the balls of her feet. As she explored the narrow hallway off the kitchen, she noticed a subtle change in the texture of the wall. Curious, she pressed her fingers against it.

A section of the wall yielded, revealing a hidden door. A wave of exhilaration washed over her. She threw open the door and stepped inside.
