He whistled a jaunty tune as he laced up his basketball shoes, a spring in his step that bordered on ridiculous. The gym felt alive, the polished floor reflecting the overhead lights in a dazzling dance. Kevin felt like he could jump over the moon. Every muscle in his body felt alive, humming with potential. He pounded the ball, the rhythmic thud echoing his own internal rhythm. “Alright, team, let’s go!” he called out, his voice ringing with pure, unadulterated excitement.

Later, Coach Miller pulled him aside. The coach’s gaze was surprisingly gentle. "Kevin, I need to have a talk with you." The atmosphere in the gym suddenly shifted.

"Come on," the coach said, leading him toward the empty bleachers. Kevin's sense of joy began to dim, but he did his best to maintain his high spirits.
