Gemotions

The morning was a celebration for Chloe. The sun felt warmer, the birds sang with a newfound melody. She practically flew through the hallways, her feet barely touching the ground. Today, she was finally going to get the scholarship she'd earned. She had visions of what she'd do with the money.

She arrived at the financial aid office, a skip in her step. A wave of nervous anticipation washed over her. The woman behind the desk, Ms. Ramirez, greeted her with a strained smile. "Chloe, we need to speak with you." Chloe’s enthusiasm faltered.

The explanation was delivered in hushed tones, the words themselves almost a whisper. A mistaken identity, a similar last name. The scholarship was meant for someone else. Chloe’s hands clenched at her sides, her knuckles turning white. The world seemed to shrink around her. Suddenly, all the bright colours faded. "But... but I..." she stammered, the words catching in her throat. She bit down hard on her lip to keep back the tears. It was over.
