Gemotions

The ocean spray misted Amelia's face as she jogged along the beach, her feet barely touching the sand. The air was thick with the scent of salt and seaweed, and the cries of the gulls sounded like music to her ears. She was giddy with anticipation; she'd arranged to meet Finn, her childhood soulmate, at their old favorite spot, the driftwood bench overlooking the cliffs.

There he was, silhouetted against the fiery sunset. Amelia quickened her pace, her heart pounding in her chest. "Finn!" she called, her voice barely a whisper above the crashing waves.

He turned. His eyes, usually sparkling with mischief, were opaque. He looked at her quizzically. “I’m sorry, I don’t think we’ve met before,” he said, his voice flat. A cold wave seemed to wash over Amelia, stealing the color from the sunset.
